Bonding Visualization

This activity is designed to explose students to a variety of different visualizations concerning chemical bonding for the purpose of identifying characteristics of "good" visualizations. This activity can be run well as a class discussion, with an activity allowing students to generate their own bonding visualization following

Below are some visualization examples that I found online. Based on the criteria we came up with, what are some positive and negative characteristics of each one?

• Cartoon showing how electrons participate in covalent and ionic bonding.
• Diagram showing electron placement for a particular type of bonding (which kind?)
• Illustration detailing electronegativity
• Cartoon illustrating bond lengths
• Visualization of formation of a chemical, highlighting orbital orientation.
